Cambodia Travel Guide

When you think of Cambodia you think of Angkor Wat, the 8th Wonder of the World, and, of course, Lara Croft Tomb Raider. But Cambodia is so much more than that. Whether you’re exploring the jungle-clad temples, relaxing on Sihanoukville’s beaches, or discovering local street food, this Southeast Asian gem promises an unforgettable experience. Perfect for budget travellers and cultural enthusiasts alike, it’s a must-visit destination in Asia.

No matter which month you visit Cambodia, you can always expect it to be HOT. The best time to visit Cambodia is generally the cooler and drier months which run from November to February.

  • November to February: Coolest and most pleasant weather, ideal for exploring temples and outdoor activities. This is also the high season, so expect crowds.
  • March to May: Low season; still dry but temperatures rise, making these the hottest months of the year. Great for beach visits but not so great for sightseeing.
  • July to August: Shoulder season, with intermittent rains in the afternoon. Lesser crowds make it ideal to visit temples.
  • September to October: Low season; Cambodia receives the highest rainfall during these months and sightseeing is a pain due to unpredictable showers. This is the time to visit if you want to get the best discounts and enjoy green landscapes.

Cambodia is generally considered a safe destination for tourists, but it’s important to be cautious. Petty crime, such as pickpocketing and bag snatching, can occur in busy areas or at night. It’s best to keep valuables secure, avoid poorly lit areas after dark, and be aware of your surroundings. In rural areas, it’s also a good idea to be mindful of potential landmine risks if venturing off well-trodden paths, although popular tourist destinations are generally safe.
