A Complete Guide to Banyu Wana Amertha Waterfall

Banyu Wana Amertha Waterfall is one the hidden gems of Bali and probably my favourite of all the waterfalls I saw during my time there.

If you are making a trip to Bali and looking for a detailed guide to Banyu Wana Amertha waterfall or just deciding which waterfall to visit, this guide should help in your planning.

Banyu Wana Amertha Waterfall is a set of four waterfalls situated in the northern part of Bali, in Munduk.

How to get to Munduk from Ubud
The easiest way to get to Munduk from Ubud is to hire a cab. You can book any of the local cabs to take you there or choose to book the ride through cab aggregators that operate in Bali like Grab or Gojek.
Munduk is around 60 kms from Ubud and takes around 2 hours by car.

How to get to Banyu Wana Amertha Waterfall from Munduk
Banyu Wana Amertha Waterfall is around 15 kms and 30 mins from Munduk centre. The roads are amazing and one can get here easily either by car or by motorcycle.

Hiring a cab would be the best and safest choice if you are not comfortable riding a two-wheeler. However, if you are experienced enough to ride on steep roads, renting a two-wheeler would be the more affordable and enjoyable option of the two.

Personally, we rented a two wheeler for the day via the hotel we were staying at and planned a whole day of waterfall chasing around Munduk. The roads were in pristine condition and it was an amazing experience to drive through the lush greenery and to have the freedom to stop at all the hydrangea fields we encountered along the way.

If you are riding on your own, the location on Google Maps will take you to the right place and the sign to the waterfall is not hard to miss. There is also plenty of parking outside to park your car/bike.

Entrance fee to Banyu Wana Amertha Waterfall is 40k IDR per person. This includes entry to all 4 waterfalls that comprise Banyu Wana Amertha. You can also hire a guide and transportation to take you down to the waterfalls for an additional fee.

Parking was free when we visited the place.

Official opening timings of Banyu Wana Amertha are 8AM to 6PM.

As with all waterfalls in Bali, you have some walking to do before the waterfall gods bestow their beauty upon you. Banyu Wana Amertha has a well paved path surrounded by gardens and trees. You will encounter steps along the way, especially when you make your way down to the last two waterfalls but they weren’t that bad to traverse either. 

You will encounter the first waterfall 700m from the ticket booth and the last waterfall at 1.2 km from the ticket booth.

There are also locals who will offer a ride up and down the trail on a scooter for a fee. 

When I think of Banyu Wana Amertha, I think of golden sunrays reflecting off a majestic waterfall, butterflies flitting all around and this breathtaking beauty that simply looked UNREAL. I remember thinking I had never seen anything so beautiful before.

Banyu Wana Amertha has four waterfalls totally and while it’s worth visiting all four of them, two of them are unmissable.

You will reach the first two waterfalls after a short 700m walk on a paved path from the ticket booth. After you reach the junction there is a short 70m hike down to the waterfall, which is easily traversable. The first of the waterfalls was the smallest of the lot with space to go behind it. Since we visited during the dry months, the water flow was mild and the pool under it was shallow enough to walk in. You could also walk up and stand on the rock behind the waterfall but after seeing the slippery rocks, my clumsy self decided to play it safe.

Just a few meters away from this waterfall is the second waterfall, which looked positively elven. You know, the kind of waterfalls you would expect to see in Rivendell or any of the magical kingdoms of Middle Earth? I mean, look at these tiny streams of waterfall flowing down with the greenery all around and that light reflecting off the water! Looks unreal.

There were plenty of people hopping into these pools for a quick swim and an influencer or two staging an elaborate photoshoot right in front (I mean, the background does look pretty fabulous), but getting here early means you can avoid most of the crowd.

Walk back up to the junction and at another 200 m, you will reach the second set of waterfalls. You will see the smaller twins off to the side and the largest and the most majestic of the four right at the front.

It is possible to swim in these pools as well, though only for a few minutes as the water was cold.

We had visited Tukad Cepung earlier, which is known for its shafts of light, but believe me, the sunrays reflecting off this waterfall made me forget all about the other one.

There is also a small bridge where you can stand and admire the waterfalls or if you aren’t afraid to get a little wet, you can walk up the path and stand right near the waterfalls.

You will need around 3 hours to see Banyu Wana Amertha waterfalls comfortably. You can probably do it faster if you are in a hurry, but I just wasn’t ready to leave this place and I took my time here just soaking in its magical beauty. All in all, Banyu Wana Amertha was probably the most beautiful waterfalls we visited in Bali and I would totally recommend you add this in your next Bali itinerary.
